What is Refilling? Refilling, in the context of nail care and nail enhancements, refers to the process of maintaining and refreshing artificial nails, such as acrylic or gel nails, as they grow out. When natural nails grow, the gap between the cuticle and the artificial nail becomes more apparent, and the area near the cuticle may start to lift. During a nail refill appointment, a nail technician will typically: Remove any existing nail polish or gel overlay. File and shape the nails as needed. Gently remove any lifted or grown-out areas of the artificial nail. Apply a new layer of acrylic or gel to fill in the gap between the natural nail and the existing artificial nail. Buff and smooth the surface of the nails. Apply a new layer of nail polish or gel overlay, if desired. Refilling helps to maintain the appearance of the artificial nails, prevent lifting or breakage, and ensure a seamless transition between the natural nail and the artificial enhancement. It is recommended to get nail refills every 2-3 weeks, depending on the rate of natural nail growth, to keep the nails looking fresh and well-maintained.
